**Please pass this message along to anyone who might be interested in
being involved with a new local media project...

B Channel News, a new online local video news collective, is looking for
videographers, on-camera reporters, video editors, journalists,
columnists, web designers/techs, and other volunteers to help us create a
new form of online interactive news media.

B Channel crews have been out filming events around town, and we have one
sample page up at http://bchannelnews.tv to demonstrate what we hope to
create.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive, factual coverage of key local issues.

We do this by providing as much information as possible, in a variety of
formats. Our job, as the media, is not to pick and choose from the
information we discover and present it with a pre-packaged angle. Our job
is to help you be as informed as possible, and draw your own conclusions.

We're aware, as journalists and researchers ourselves, how online media
archives are increasingly being used by students, scholars, researchers,
legislators, and others, as a tool for research. With this in mind, it's
critical that stories get told from as many angles as possible, and that
access be created directly to the source of the information.

B Channel News is an interactive experience. Each issue covered includes
several video segments, interviews, articles, and links to other media
outlets, as well as links to relevant websites. Each page has a comment
section, so that you may join the discussion, put forwards suggestions,
share information, and help steer the direction of our coverage.

B Channel News is located in Victoria, BC. Our coverage will be focused
mainly on events in this city.

B Channel News is looking to recruit and support beat reporters.
(Beat reporting is the craft of reporting on an issue or particular
sector, organization or institution over time. Beat reporters build up a
base of knowledge on and gain familiarity with the sector, allowing them
to provide insight and commentary in addition to reporting straight facts.
This distinguishes them from other journalists who might cover similar
stories from time to time. -wikipedia)

Possible beats include:

-Culture
-Politics (mostly municipal)
-Development and Infrastructure
-Business, Industry
-Education
-Labour
-Police and Military
-Criminal Courts
-Poverty and Social Services
-Environment
-Religion/Spirituality
-Community
-Technology and Science
-Health
-History

B Channel News is a collectively run media project. Our goal is to allow
reporters as much creative control as possible with their coverage. We
want to produce a quality website that reporters feel proud to be involved
with.

Though we are hoping to attract dedicated volunteers who are willing to
work with us on a regular basis, we are also accepting submissions of
articles and videos. Consider becoming a freelance reporter with B
Channel.

The B Channel News Collective meets every Sunday at 1pm.
Email info@bchannelnews.tv for meeting location, or call 250-857-NEWS

Hello friendly people of Victoria!

We will be moving to your fine city this summer and are looking for a place to live.

A little about us...
We are a young (early and late 20s), married couple currently living on a small farm in Port Alberni. We're quiet, simple, folk, looking for good, friendly, people and community. One of us will be studying Herbal Medicine at Pacific Rim College, and the other is a DJ (house music) and bicycle mechanic. We come with two quirky indoor/outdoor cats, lots of books, and lots of records. We enjoying doing Kung Fu and Tai Chi, love to cook and bake almost all of our own food, and don't own a television.

We are looking for a house with some space to garden (we're moving from country acreage to the city!). We're open to living with other people, as long as we have a semi-private space. Do you have a small guesthouse in your backyard? We are used to living in small spaces! Ideally we would like to be fairly near downtown, and spend less than $800 a month. It would be nice to have a fenced yard for our kitties to run around in as well. Our cats don't do well with other cats, but they have lived with a dog in the past. In roommates, we are looking for conscientious, healthy, eco-conscious people who aren't big partiers. We don't really drink, but we are 420 friendly.

If you have, or know of someone who has, a house or room in a house available starting July/August for $800 or less, we'd love to hear from you.

"Finally it is here- the eagerly awaited third Bluetech album on Aleph Zero- The Divine Invasion. Three years in the making, The Divine Invasion offers an irresistible mix of spacey dubby beats, dreamy atmospheres and unique compositions. The same irresistible mix that made the New York Times label Bluetech as 'one of the best ambient artists' following the release of his previous album- Sines and Singularities.

In The Divine Invasion, Bluetech, a master of downtempo electronica, goes deeper and farther into new uncharted territories. From his distinct mellow oceanic ambience, emerge playful complex sound games and subtle yet sweeping currents of emotion, amalgamating into wordless songs. Bluetech is a master in the art of creating danceable music full of ambience and ambient music that makes you dance, as The Divine Invasion perfectly proves. "

We're both on the fence between staying in Victoria or checking out Vancouver. We'd love to hear recommendations for good areas to live on southern Vancouver Island (not limited to Victoria).

We're looking for a place close to a regional park or walking trails, a place with a younger crowd and energy (a post university but pre- family with grown kids energy) and also walking distance to stores with good organic selections. Any ideas? Since I work at home, I'm even willing to try one of the islands like Saltspring. Has anyone lived there?

If anyone has lived in Vancouver, I'd also love to hear how it compares with Victoria. I'm not sure if I can handle all the rain in Vancouver.

Thanks in advance!

You may remember these Lighta! bad boys from Bass Bottoms 1 & 2, Scratch My Glitch Up! and Proppa Sessions. Mr. Max Ulis has wrangled them up along with the sickest duo from the west coast to bring you what will be the HAWTEST night of 2009!
Trust us - you will NOT want to miss this one!
ANASIA VS DANNY CORN=3WS

If you saw Anasia's last performance at Dubforms/Shambhala/Burningman you already know why we have brought her back to B.C. From dubstep to glitch hop she brings the crunkness. Danny Corn is an excellent ping pong player and has good taste in tequila.
TAAL MALA || LIGHTA! // SUB OSC

This rock star needs no introduction. Last seen in this city last summer droppin tha glitch. This time round he will slay us all with his pointy stache and dubsteppin tracks. Always a pleasure to see perform, his mixing is tight and he gets REALLY into his sets which are usually accompanied by frenzied dancing and flying dreads.
MAX ULIS || LIGHTA! // SUB OSC

One of the BC’s leading proponents of British grime and dubstep, producer Max Ulis has been pushing his dubstep and glitched out digital dancehall sounds up and down the west coast. Some of the hottest and sexiest dancefloors we've seen have been while mr.max has been slayin 'em. If you were at Bass Bottoms2 then you'll know what we mean. Max has appeared alongside the likes of Kode 9, Skream, Benga, Hatcha, The Bug, Dj Vadim, and the legendary Remarc. Look for Max’s vinyl and digital releases this year (if we should be so lucky)
DAEGA SOUNDSYSTEM || LIGHTA! // BALANCE RECORDS

Brothers Ben and Joshua Searles are the DAEGA Sound System. A Live PA and DJ duo they are pushing the deeper end of the dubstep sound. Described as "deep and heavy, intricate and spacious" they are unlike any other producers making dub step at the moment. Their productions are attracting international attention and getting play on some of the biggest radio shows in the biz with support from Mary Anne Hobbs on BBC 1, Rob Booth from Electronic Explorations and Joe Nice's Gourmet Beat. Get ready for a journey to the depths unknown goodness.

Room for rent in beautiful large communal house just off Dallas Road.

We (a large communal house on point street, by clover point, in Victoria BC, comprised of a diverse groups of students, professionals, musicians, DJs, children, healers, yogis, artists, educators, facilitators and inspired individuals looking at creating positive change in our community, city, country, world!!) are looking for two roommates for February 1st, one of the rooms is a long-term sublet (until September, available immediately) in a nicely sized room on the second floor of the house, relatively bright and cozy. The other room is a very small room at the entrance of point street ideal for someone with few possessions, and who requires little physical space. there is a window, which provides not only some light yet also some draftyness, dues to the limited physical size of the roomsit is VERY afordable (unlikely to find anything cheaper in victoria).

As a community we have communal dinners of which you will be expected to contribute to, we host workshops, and offer our space for various other uses (bulk food storage once and a while, gatherings, yoga sessions ect...). You would ideally wish to participate in cooking, cleaning, gardening, singing, dancing, having fun, being part of community, coming to meetings, caring about your roomates and all issues involving the house. Ideally you are also a revolutionary in your own right, looking to make the world a better place (regardless of how cheesy that stetement sounds), conscious in many ways, that is environmentally conscious, health conscious, socially conscious, communially conscious, a good communicators, empathic listener, nurturer, an open minded individual, and caring..

So, if yourself or someone you know is looking for a home do let is know, you can email me back or call 294 9633. For the record we are especially looking for womyn, the maintain a fairly even ratio. Also there are children who live upstairs in the house, so if you don't like children then don't bother responding to this email as we need to keep in mind their safety and comfort. Thanks!

Take Care,
Chloe

Feel free to forward this folks who may interested in living with us here at point street
thanks for your help.

I'm new to the island and have brought my love for House Music and Community dancing with me.
I will soon be bringing my turntables down to Polly's Pub in Port Alberni every Saturday to gather with my fellow underground dance music lovers. However I am making my debut tonight spinning tunes for their NYE party.
I know it's a stretch to get people up here from Victoria, but if you've got some friends in the area you could stay with, it'll be worth the trip. Nothing real fancy, just good tunes and good people. Polly's Pub is a fairly small space, but it's got a great atmosphere and a great dance floor. So come on up and shake the frost out your bones!
Hope to see you there, today or next time you're in town.
It would help me immensely -- I still need 19 little guys and the days are winding down for high diversity (its getting cold).

If you have some, I can either come there and capture them! or you can put them in a little jar with some water and soap and contact me at:
or zjivka@uvic.ca

Thank you and...
Sincerely yours!

Do you love nature?

Do you want to live in a room with a view of the ocean and mountains?

Do you hate working job-jobs for others when you could spend that time writing music, making art, doing yoga, or simply meditating by a warm fire?

Do you like to cook yummy vegetarian food?

Do you live with a low eco-footprint?

Do you like to live clutter-free and cleanly?

Do you appreciate good music and a zen vibe?

If you answered yes to most of these questions, then consider joining me and Azul the folk-electronic fusion musician in my wonderful home in Sooke, 40 minutes from Victoria, 20 minutes to French Beach, 30 minutes to China Beach, 45 minutes to Sombrio Beach, 15 minutes to the Sooke Potholes, 25 minutes to East Sooke Park, 10 minutes to Kemp Lake, a 10-minute walk to Ella Beach, and a 1-hour hike to the top of Broom Hill upon which the house sits.

The house is perched on a rock at the edge of Sooke town, buffered somewhat from the neighbours by Firs, Cedars, Arbutus trees, and a gorgeous mossy rock, on two thirds of an acre. The good vibes start as soon as you open the door – the open stairs reminiscent of the 60s. When you get to the top, you are in the living room, and the first thing you’ll notice is the huge, blue tiled wood stove, unlike anything you’ve ever quite seen before (except perhaps in a Dr. Seuss book), but it’s warm -- oh so warm! As you stand in front of “Jacques Bluestove” to warm your body, so does your soul begin to warm as you look around and see the gorgeous dark brown parquet wooden floor, again reminding you of days yonder, before they started coating wood floors with polyurethane. The enchantment continues as your eyes are drawn towards the huge south-facing windows with its view of a sliver of the Juan de Fuca Strait, and a healthy chunk of the snow-capped US Olympic Mountains, its expansive beauty reminding you of the freedom to which America shall soon return.

As the overhead fan whirs, blowing warm air upon you, you continue on to the kitchen, and happen upon its many spices. Smelling the coriander and examining the many teas, your eyes look out the kitchen’s bay window and the doorway to the kitchen deck. Turning around, you walk toward the huge master bedroom – one of two options available to you – with its large windows full of greenery, overhead skylight, and doorway to wooden deck. Feeling the silent communication of the surrounding plants, you leave the master bedroom and ascend the second stairway. the cleanliness, openness and clutter-freeness of the house giving you a feeling of mental purity. Upstairs you are greeted with the second bathroom and it’s wide-windowed view of the mossy rock and friendly arbutus tree, with hammock hanging. That a friend visiting you resting on the hammock might be able to see in to the bathroom while you bath in bubbles does not bother you, for you are free that way.

You have a peek in Azul’s room and you know at once you are in good company, musician’s company. A lucky musician he is, with his own large view of the mossy rock, and a doorway leading right onto it.

Finally, you enter the other room available to you, the “view room”. The walls are a light yellow, giving it a warmth. The floors, like the rest of the house, are parquet dark wood. The closet is big enough for your bohemian wardrobe. A beautiful large plant named “Truff Luff” leans towards you, beckoning you towards the windows. Binoculars sit on the desk so that you can peer more closely at the peaks of the Olympic Mountains, but for the most part, you just look at them with your bare, natural eyes, and you know that waking up to this every morning is one key ingredient to inner peace. The chaos of urban life is far away, but you know that in the subdued city of Victoria, every weekend there is a good party, and amazing people to commune with. Your weekdays, by contrast, will be spent cultivating your own soul, in the calmness of this home.

-=<>=-

Rent is $460 per month for the room with a view, utilities included (highspeed internet, unlimited long distance, heat, electricity, hot water, etc) or $600 per month, utilities included, for the very large master bedroom.

But here’s the exciting part – you want to quit working for the man, right? You like to cook yummy vegetarian food? Cook Shiraz meals for your rent! It works out beautifully – you get to zen out, you get to relax, and on the weekends you get your social fix.

Call me, let’s talk – 250-412-1421.

Peace,

Native Symbols

Powwow
A powwow is a gathering of Aboriginal people for a celebration of singing, drumming and dancing where all are welcome. There is a spiritual component to powwows and many traditions are inherent in the dances. Elders teach the dancers, especially youth, the spiritual teachings that they need to know. To be a true powwow dancer involves more than just the movements in the dance; it is a way of life. Sometimes this is called the Red Road, which means learning to live a good life based on spirituality and traditions. Powwow dancers learn what they need to know to be good people and effective leaders. The teachings are more important than how well they dance or how beautiful their outfits are. If the dancers listen to the teachings, they will dance well and their outfits will be beautiful because dancers are taught to take pride in themselves. Aboriginal people believe that if they are proud of themselves, they can practice their tradition of respecting others.

At a competition, powwow dancers are divided into categories based on age, gender and dance style. There are: traditional dancers, fancy dancers, jingle dress dancers, grass dancers, hoop dancers and many others. Age groups include: the golden age, men's and women's, teen, junior boys and girls and the ever-popular tiny tots. Dancers are judged on their regalia and their dancing ability. There is an Arena Director or Whip to keep the dancers organized and to watch that things are done correctly. There is a Master of Ceremonies to communicate with the audience and there are usually different judges called upon for each competition. Drum groups are also judged. The dancing arena is circular and is called an arbor. The front seats of the arbor are for dancers, drummers and their families. Elders are given a special seating area. Others bring their own seat to place around the circle. Most powwows start Friday night with a Grand Entry, when all the dancers are drummed in. They follow flag carriers, who carry flags representing the nations present and an eagle feather staff. The dance competitions follow. There is generally a Grand Entry every day of the competition.

Carving
The Khenipsen Artisan Centre at the Quw’utsun’ Cultural and Conference Centre in Duncan is the world's largest carving house. In the Khenipsen Artisan Centre, visitors learn the historic and traditional uses of natural materials found in the local area and used for transportation, housing, clothing, foods and medicines. The tools that are used for weaving, knitting and carving are also displayed. Visitors can watch the carving of a totem, mask or war canoe and can carve for themselves on the Visitor's Carving Pole. Traditionally, the elders look at an infant child and know whether or not the child will become a carver. In this way, the elder decided which child would be taught the craft. Now, anyone interested in carving has the opportunity to learn not only how to carve, but also the significance of carving, and how to preserve the cultural value of carving.

Cedar is the tree of choice because of its versatility and has been used extensively. The trunks became building material for homes and buildings, canoes and totem poles. Bark was fashioned into clothing, baskets and rope that was stronger than any modern synthetic equivalent.

Totem Poles
A totem is defined as an object, such as an animal or plant, that serves as the emblem or symbol of a kinship group or person. First Nations cultures carve wooden poles to display these totems. Each animal carved on the pole represents a mythical creature associated with family history, notable ancestors or events which displayed the ancestors’ spiritual powers or magical privileges of the families. Each different totem belongs to the particular family or person carving it; in other words, the carver cannot use totems belonging to families outside his own. In this way, the family is reminded of its common origins.

One of the finest collections of totem poles in the world can be found in Thunderbird Park, at the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria. Beacon Hill Park is home to the world’s tallest, free-standing totem pole carved from a single log. Alert Bay on Northern Vancouver Island is home to the tallest totem pole in the world, at 53 metres (two parts), and features 22 figures and requires binoculars to make out the details at the top.

Top
Nahnum
The nahnum (or fire circle) is a gathering place where stories and teachings are shared. The circular seating and fire burning are traditions that started in the tribes' winter homes, where members of all generations would sit and talk with the elders. More formal gatherings are held to discuss business matters. During those meetings, a talking stick is used to indicate which person will speak. Gatherings are still practiced today, although they may not be around a fire. Talking face-to-face is an important tradition for Aboriginal people. If a person needs a favour or some advice from an elder, he or she must go to the elder's home to have tea and talk. As a result of this tradition, many elders don't use telephones or e-mail.

Dropped Eagle Feather
Powwow dancers are warned to take care that all parts of their outfits are firmly attached. If a feather comes off during their dancing, the dance is interrupted by the Arena Director. The Arena Director chooses an appropriate ceremony to pick up the feather and everyone is told what has happened. The ceremony cannot be photographed or videotaped. It usually includes a drum song, and an elder dancer dances and picks up the feather and gives words of advice. The ceremony is a teaching for the dancers as well as the audience; it shows how important it is to respect yourself and your culture. The eagle feather is a very sacred object; it symbolizes spiritual strength. The way the eagle feather is treated shows the way we respect our ancestors, our culture and ourselves.

Storytelling
Aboriginal culture is based on an oral history and it is the elders who are responsible for sharing the stories of the ancestors. The elders are the history keepers, an important role for a culture who has few other sources of history from a native perspective. Aboriginal people are keenly aware that, as times change, they could lose the stories about their history. Now, with the permission of the individual elder, storytelling gatherings are recorded for archival purposes.

Potlach
The potlach is a sacred ceremony and the societal underpinning of Aboriginal culture. Through this ceremony, Native people unite families in marriage, name children, right wrongs, pass on rights and responsibilities to the next generation and share wealth. From 1884 to 1951, the potlach was outlawed by the Canadian government as part of an attempt to destroy Aboriginal culture and force the assimilation of its people. Masks and regalia were confiscated, destroying priceless historical treasures. Only in recent
years have the traditions come to life once again, through the memories of the elders and the efforts of present-day Native people.

Masks
Like totem poles, Aboriginal masks depict different symbols used in the stories of a tribe. The masks carved for a tribe are used for ceremonial purposes. The most common symbols on both masks and totems are: the thunderbird, killer whale, frog, salmon, beaver, bear, wolf, sun, moon and raven.
After 2 1/2 months of travelling and "gnomadism", I'm shifting towards the homeward journey!
On the way, I'm going to see Portland and Seattle. So, does anyone have any ideas for places to see / visit / eat / hang out in either city?

My car is in Victoria. I'm hoping someone will take my car from Victoria and meet me at the airport (early afternoon Sunday), and from there we can have a nice afternoon in Vancouver (including possibly a cool Diwali event that Tarun mentions), dinner, then go to the show together. Maybe the whole Victoria posse wants to come in my car (how many of you are there?). Then we can all drive back together the next day. Fun times!!! Give me a shout if you want to get in on this action. shiraz@theshiraz.net or 250-412-1421.

so it's a very sturdy table built on steel legs with a wood frame that
is padded with cream coloured vinyl stretched over it and a
i believe that someone built this themselves at some point and it has
enjoyed a couple years of use by acupuncturists.
it does not fold and you would need a station wagon or suv/truck to
pick it up unless you wanted to strap it upside down to your roof.
there are a couple of marks on the vinyl but they are easily covered
This 3 day dance ceremony is an invitation for ALL those who feel called to open their BODY as LOVE. We will be deepening our practice of devotional surrender in the DANCE. We will be focusing on the sacred alchemical marriage of our inner masculine and feminine energies, increasing our capacity for the integration for higher consciousness and manifestation. Participants will be given TOOLS FOR LIFE, developing the power of the inner witness to support us in these times of accelerated growth we have chosen.

All participants of the weekend workshop will receive a copy of Leyolah's most recent integrative work manual "Morning Prayers" to support you in your spiritual daily practice.

Leyolah Antara will be offering one weekend only in BC this season. The keys shared are based in ancient tantric/shamanic alchemical practices that are central to the healing/awakening arts of many ancient esoteric cultures, particularly ancient Egypt. Antara has been bringing this work through for the past 16 years and the work is continually evolving, attuning specifically with the earth changes occurring at his time and it's relationship to the next step of humanities evolution.

Leyolah is an incredible activated being who deeply embodies the tools she teaches. I feel like I have awakened ancient tools /keys within my body. Tools that I will continue to use to help me return again and again to the sense of deep connection, peace and joy. These tools integrate deep acceptance and help navigate the fear based emotions and reactions that arise in daily life. I feel really, really grateful, deeply satisfied, exited about these tantric tools for life and equipped for the next part of my journey. – Robyn Gilmour, May 2008,

In exchange, they'd be welcome to stay at my lovely home in fernwood....it WOuld mean staying with my roomate, who is absolutely phenomenal, as well as two lovely cats......we are a hop skip and jump away from fernwood square...and have a beautiful backyard with a fire pit, and a lovely porch complete with hammock, and skylight...

It's better than a table, it's a graph which visually depicts the water level. If you go beyond a few day period it has this innovative colour bitmap image that works better than long-term graphs. (from experience). Both the graph and bitmap are a much better way to plan your excursions to trippy tide pools than a typical printed tide chart, because you can see more information at a glance, ultimately landing you there at lower tides.

I figure some people around here would dig it.

Works on Windows, Linux, OSX. The Linux and OSX installs will require a little bit more effort than your standard install.

I'm very patient with peoples' needs but i cannot do anything to help people who are not interested in talking to me, And they aren't. It's unfortunate to have to seek another home because i have been very happy living with nejmah and her daughter. However these are the breaks

So i'm seeking a home. Somewhere solid, i love people, so somewhere people would like that. A healthy relationship with the landlord being essential. The room somewhere in the 'sane' 500/m max range. Preferably with tribe.
You know those bulk bins that you use at FairWay Markets or Market on Yates? There are gravity fed ones, and there are the kinds that you use scoops for.
Well, I have access to a whole bunch of those gravity fed bins, and I think that some of you may want them.
If you happen to live in Community and share food, or if you wish to have a few of these to put on top of your fridge and easily dispense your rice, oats, quinoa, etc. from, please let me know.
They are sealed units, that hold approximately 5kgs of whatever product you might/could think of.
From cat food to quinoa... it all works. Rat and mouse proof too!

Pacific Peoples' Partnership is looking for unique and contemporary designers, and artisans to showcase and sell at our market in Centennial Square, August 24th, noon until 5.

This market is FREE to have a stall at for the day, although we are asking those involved if, after sales of the day have been taken into consideration, they would consider making a small, tax deductable donation to Pacific Peoples Partnership, to help us cover the costs of holding this event!
Redefining community gatherings, this free afternoon extravaganza will showcase local music, food, artwork, workshops and much more. The fun doesn’t kick off till noon so sleep in late, skip the brunch lineup, and instead sample tasty treats by Blue Nile and the Reef. Once your belly is full, take a stroll through the wee market featuring the work of local designers, artists and fresh produce from Food Roots. The kids will be entertained with face painting, story ready, live painting, and a chance to take part in our workshops! The “odds and sods” area will feature a variety of workshops for both youth and adults! Chat it up with reps from Surf Rider and Pacific Peoples’ Partnership and find out what they’re doing to take care of our shores and oceans, and then kick back to enjoy local beers in our beer garden and savour some fine, local music
Come celebrating the ties between the traditional and the contemporary cultures of the Pacific Coast in style and sun!
i'm hoping to organize a tribe camping trip to the Carmanah Valley in August -- for those of us laying off the festivals for that month.

the idea would be to all meet up at my house in Sooke the evening before departure, organize our stuff, pre-cook some meals, have a good night sleep, leave in a caravan the next morning, drive along the west coast, have a snack/meal stopover in Port Renfrew, then proceed into Carmanah.

if you're interested in joining, please answer the following questions:

1. how many days would you want to camp for?
2. weekdays or weekend?
3. what date ranges work for you?
4. do you have a car?
5. what gear can you bring?
6. what's the square root of 81? (diligence test)
7. would you agree to paying a deposit for your share of the costs two weeks before departure (anti-flakeout strategy)
8. would you want to hike and camp along the trails, or setup a base camp and do day hikes instead?
9. any specific activities you'd like to do while there?
I'm going to go to Shambhala this year. I live in Fernwood in a great home, with a LARGE yard, and 3 chickens. I need some help in taking care of The Girls, while I'm away. I'll be gone from Tuesday, August 5 to August 13th.
Some of the benefits of this stay include: staying at my home and eating from the garden. Enjoying 3 fresh eggs everyday, or not. The neighbours also enjoy this benefit. Chatting with The Girls, and learning how to care for chickens. Enjoying my yoga studio, using my props., enjoying my QueenSized Princess bed, sitting the tree fort above the apple tree...
Tribe Productions presents...!

:: DUB GABRIEL ::
Dub Gabriel has been pushing the boundaries of the New York dub/electronic scene for over 10 years. Coming up as a musician/producer/DJ/promoter on the streets of Williamsburg Brooklyn in the mid 90’s, his musical explorations led him to the anarchic fringes of the downtown NY scene and the guerilla-electro-mysticism of Wordsound and The Baraka Foundation. Drinking deep from this dangerous brew of unyielding creativity, DG pushed out into space and our world have never been the same since.

Picture a post-apocalyptic Brooklyn rooftop, somewhere in the not too distant future. The scene is drenched in a smog-orange sunset haze as a large spaceship, bristling with speakers and pumping bass like a soundsystem truck from 1970’s Kingston touches down. The spectacle attracts a dusted assemblage of Rastafarian monks and Bedouin Shamans, coming out of the woodwork to call our collective ancestors like they’ve done since the beginning of time. This is close to the scene evoked by resident Brooklyn DJ/Producer/Mad Scientist Dub Gabriel.

What's going on:

I'm putting together a silent auction to fundraise for VICFAN (Victoria Forest Action Network). The funds will go towards upcoming Wild Earth which is an annual forest action training camp on BC's coast, as well as to other needs of the organization.

How you can help:

We need your skills...whatever they be. If you do art of any kind, if you can teach something, íf you have a physical item of sorts that you think would be valuable to others.. let us know.

This is a beautyfull opportunity for our community to show what it has to offer and the networking that i've experienced from the last time i did this is wonderfully worth the contribution.. as if the cause wasn't already.... like for example i was connected to some returning music students after donating a few lessons to the silent auction.

To give some examples; the last time I organized one of these babies we had everything from paintings, instruments, music lessons, web design certificates, fresh organic veggies, to beer making workshops, urban survival tours, poi lessons, plant walks, massage, to name a few.

Be creative. We all have so much to give...it may be something that's never been offered before...

Also:

We will be having a bike tune up day, by donation and we're looking for people who know how to tune up bikes that can hang out on a beautyfull day in fernwood square and tune up some bikes. I'll post the dates when théy're confirmed.

WILD EARTH

For those interested in attending Wild Earth; It is a week long event that is by donation; sliding scale $20-$50, and free for volunteers and low-income folk, and you're encouraged to come on out. Share skills, meet great people, and defend the land! Hands-on workshops, networking and volunteer opportunities.
Wild Earth is located this year in Bella Coola and goes from August 25th-31rst
